A buddy and I were requested to transfer a 51-foot X-Yacht from Stockholm to Hank in the southeast of Norway in the early spring of 1995. I had just turned 18 at the time. It was really chilly and there was still some snow. As might be anticipated in Scandinavia at that season. We had to motor sail for days on end to accomplish the delivery on time.

I used my cash to get the top model Ocean Jacket and salopette-style trousers from Musto since I required a complete set of adequate foul weather attire. The idea was to use the money I received from my delivery work to cover the expense of what was at the time a sizable investment for me.

Now that I’ve used the Musto kit for so many years, I have to admit that it was well worth the investment. I doubt I’ll ever possess another amazing piece of equipment like this one. The fantastic part is that I anticipate using the jacket for a few more years!

Unfortunately, a few years ago, the pair of pants was irreparably torn. Although another pair of trousers is now being worn, I suppose I can still repair them with some stitching and a few patches and they will last for a few more years.

The annual expense for this kind of sailing clothing has been really minimal, assuming I can get north of 30 years of arduous use out of them.

The Musto gear has been used extensively for boat repair, fishing, and general time on the water in addition to sailing. Blood, intestines, oil, and varnish are all soaked into the Musto jacket and pants.

My pals and I set nets and pots practically every weekend from October through April throughout the winter. Lows of – 20 degrees Celsius are possible. Add to it a savage northerly gale, snow, ice, and water temps of only a few degrees, and the Musto equipment has endured some trying circumstances.

Bright yellow nylon was used to create the jacket. It has three levels. a layer of nylon that is waterproof on the exterior, a layer of windproof material on the inside, and a third, thinner layer that is more comfortable to wear.

Although the colour has slightly faded over time due to UV exposure, I am still quite noticeable at sea.

Over the years, the cloth itself has remained impervious. The issue is that the seams are not holding up very well, which is to be expected after so many years. Along the zipper and in front of the side pockets, the Velcro is beginning to come apart in little pieces. That, in my opinion, is a simple repair for a tailor.

A harness was included in the jacket, but I removed it long ago since it was uncomfortable. When required, I would prefer to use an external harness.

The reflexes on each shoulder are rather big. On the chest, there is a vertical reflex as well.

The roll-away bright neon coloured hood is beautifully made, and it is not difficult to wear a wool hat in the cold. It includes a cover that prevents water from leaking onto your face in the rain. The hood is highly adjustable and tight.

Two fleece-lined handwarmer pockets are included in the front cargo pockets, which also have water-repellent closures. Very useful when it’s chilly. Additionally, there is a sizable interior pocket with a zipper. I store my phone and other valuable items there since I believe it to be waterproof.

One of this jacket’s better aspects, if you will, is the design of the collar. It feels tight around the neck when you pull the zipper all the way up. Fleece lining lines the interior. You may also open the storm flap and fold the collar out even further. The collar then drapes over the face, nearly reaching the top of your head in the back and your nose in the front.

The zipper is quite durable and has never given rise to any issues. even years spent in temperatures below zero. There is a sizable storm flap outside the zipper, and I suppose that is where the zipper’s durability lies.
